Week 5 Less #Carbs More #Smiles
I do this all of the time. Amp up my training regimen after I notice the scale sitting longer than usual on the far right side of my ideal weight. But I know the scale is not a very good indicator of fitness/health all of the time, depending on the types of activities I'm involved in. Too bad I'm not doing any heavy lifting! I'm just simply over-indulging on breaded goodness. It is not just the scale though. Last week, while traveling for work, I felt this uncomfortable heaviness on my chest. I have never had any major health problems (knock on wood) and don't plan on starting, however, this feeling of sluggishness and heaviness has caused reason for concern. I'm pretty active though...I visit the gym for cardio and yoga at least 3 days a week and I visit Shelby Farms for an outdoor walk/run at least once a week. Apparently my activity is not the problem. I have come to the conclusion that my diet needs to be re-assessed and altered. Despite the greens, the lean meat, and colorful fruits I eat, I need to layoff on the CARBS. Out of convenience (on the bad food days) I sometimes find myself in line at a major drive through, convincing myself that it is okay because I'm substituting fries for fruit--while devowering a fried chicken sandwich with buns as thick as my bedroom pillows. Not a good habit or trend. I considered doing a "cleanse" and starting fresh. Unfortunately, I don't have enough knowledge on that nor the desire to research it. So, this past week I have said "goodbye" to carbs, mainly in the form of grains (accept for my usual morning oatmeal--Breakfast is STILL the most important meal of the day). I am laying off of my daily sweet potato, no more brown rice or any other whole grain I enjoy. While this is temporary, I can already feel the changes. I'm no longer experiencing that heavy-chest feeling. My scale is no longer out-of-sorts. I haven't even really had to do lunges to fit into my skinny jeans, LOL! I know that I cannot keep this up, but for now it is working for me. I will soon be picking up sprint intervals again to get my body together before my Miami vacay in July. Please don't take my thoughts as gospel; I'm only sharing an experience. Last night I made a shrimp dish (with angel hair pasta) and herbed green bean casserole. Next week I'll probably be eating spinach feta wraps at Starbucks again. Ha! Love ya.
